1 Corinthians 1:27

But God chose what is foolish in the world to shame the wise; God chose what is weak in the world to shame the strong. 1 Corinthians 1:27

Eternal Father, your word created the universe and your word can destroy all. Man can do nothing without you, for everything is ordained at your command. The fear of your works and your invincible power, is the understanding of the wise, who recognize that all things come from you and are granted to those that ask of you, seek you and knock on the door that endows them with your graces.

We come empty-handed into the world and return to nothingness but dust when we leave the confines of our body. The brilliance of the mind and the seemingly indestructible strength of those who build up their physique inflates the ego and fails to endure the passage of time and the ravages it brings to mind and body. But the word of the Lord endures forever and all who are rich in the word receive the supernatural gifts of purity and sanctity which are needed for eternal life.

Arrogance, boasting and selfishness are the downfall of many and profit for nothing but eternal damnation and condemnation in your eyes O Lord. Those who scoff at your plans, who wrench them out of your hands and mold them according to their convenience and the dictates of worldliness are brought down to their knees. Your ways of salvation are derided by self-acclaimed wise men, who lose the prize of eternal life and the inheritance of your providence as a penalty for unrepented wickedness.

Bless us with wisdom to discern that the plan of salvation for fallen man was determined by you before the world began, so that the wisdom, strength, pride and boastings of fallen mankind will be brought to nothing. For wisdom comes from you alone, and your sufficient strength is only to be found in the person and work of Jesus, your incarnate son, in whose name we are redeemed. Amen
