Luke 2: 10-11, 13-14

24 December, 2020

But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is Christ the Lord”…Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests.” Luke 2:10–11, 13–14

Glory to God in the highest! Our God of Salvation and author of our lives, our voices swell in volume and power, resounding and filling the air with its message of joy, hope, faith and love, for the Lord has come, and his glory and majesty spreads its luminous light throughout the earth, as the star proclaiming his coming and leading kings from different ends of the earth, to pay homage rests over the lowly manger where the newborn babe lies.

The heavens rend the world with the sounds of a host of angels praising and worshipping the Lord, for surely, this is the coming prophesied from the beginning of the earth, when man was banished from your almighty presence into the dark regions of sin and death, strife and decay, desolation and infirmities, bondage and affliction in the absence of your countenance, turned away from us in wrath and vengeance.

But for what length of time can you, our perfect God of love, goodness and mercy, hide your face and denounce your creation? You know our weaknesses and our continued decline into apostasy and iniquities are dealt with, when Jesus our Savior is born, to take the great burden of our sins unto himself and build our faith by outpourings of your grace upon those who believe and who receive the gift of eternal salvation and sonship, which reconciles us with you, Father, who gives us a place and an eternal inheritance in your Heavenly Kingdom.

And so we commemorate, with joy and hope, the birth and coming of our Messiah, even in this time of great trial of the deadly pandemic spreading throughout your earth, trusting that you will keep your promises and restore your creation, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
