Luke 6: 35

8 July, 2022

But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked. – Luke 6:35

Lord, our God, how Mighty is your Holy Name. You are abounding in absolute Love and unfathomable Mercy towards your people. You reward your faithful followers in immeasurable ways and are just and righteous, good and kind, compassionate and beneficent towards all creation, without disparity or distinction. Your promises are unfailing and unshakable and your free gift of salvation embraces all the earth.

You have promised, through Jesus Christ that the poor and humble will inherit your kingdom, the hungry will be fed, and those who mourn shall be lifted in joy and laughter. Hence, it is essential for all believers to follow your Covenant of Love, whereby Jesus has preached that we should love our enemies to gather a heavenly reward, for everyone can love a person who loves them. The test for a believer is to spread and display love towards friend and persecutor in like measure. Thus, we prioritize heavenly and eternal rewards and not temporal, earthly, perishable rewards.

God, as our Father, we wish to emulate you, who loves all equally, and treats the evil and the good in like manner, giving everyone the benefit of the sacrifice made by Jesus for the atonement of the sins of the world. Even more, you love us so much that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us, thus reconciling us to you despite our rejection, scorn and enmity. You have never made us feel inadequate and unloved, and we too should reciprocate those feelings to all, for us to be truly the children of the Most High, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
