Prayers and Petitions

Matthew 6: 7-8

19 July, 2022

When you are praying, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do; for they think that they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him.
Matthew 6:7-8

Abba Father, God of Mercy and Justice, God of Power and Majesty, we stand before you in humble supplication, for you are our Sustenance and Providence. Father, we are nothing before you and fear your Holy Name, for all the earth and heavens, all space and time, are under your dominance, yet you have deemed us worthy of being loved, cared for, provided for, as your most loved creation, being made in your image.

We sing out your praises, mindful that our communication will be accepted for it’s sincerity and humility, it’s devotion and dedication, made from the very depths of our fragile hearts, made through the power of your Spirit dwelling within us, Who conveys our yearnings and needs with groaning from the innermost recesses of our beings. We pray, blessed that we can communicate and converse with you, instead of chants of mechanical lamentations.

Lord, we know you would rather have the prayers of a contrite heart, than costly offerings, which are meaningless before you. You would rather have a humble, authentic plea than a lengthy repetition of words. And so Father, we prostrate in reverence and offer our adoration for your greater glory, trusting that you are already aware of our heart’s desires and will supply our every need according to the riches of your glory, in Jesus’ Name, as we trust in your Holy Will. Amen
