True Stability in Jesus
“He also brought me up out of a horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my steps.” – Psalms 40:2
The Lord God Almighty has delivered us from the “horrible pit” of turmoil and destruction. David likens the sinful life to imprisonment in a dungeon, as it literally happened to Jeremiah. It also brings to mind the image of a dead body in a grave, as we were once spiritually dead in a “walking grave” until we came to Jesus.
Walking on “miry clay” is nearly impossible without sinking, requiring significant effort just to move forward. Living without the guidance of the Holy Spirit feels much the same. The “miry clay” represents a life built on unstable ground, with weak principles, distorted morals, and a twisted value system. In such a life, there is nothing firm to grasp and only a bleak future awaits.
However, since the Holy Spirit touched our hearts and we invited Jesus to be our Lord, we began to walk on solid ground. The rock symbolizes stability—a secure foundation where we can advance and move toward a better place. Jesus is our rock, and in Him, we have true hope for a better future and a life worth living.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Thank You, Lord, for setting me free from the pit of turmoil where sin held me captive. Because of Your loving kindness, my feet are now on the rock, and I can walk with ease, advancing toward becoming who You created me to be. Thank You, Father, for adopting me into Your family. Please help me to do Your will so that I may please You every day of my life. In the Name of Jesus, I pray. Amen
