MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 26 OCTOBER

THE 26th OF OCTOBER

OUR COVENANT WITH JESUS THROUGH BAPTISM BY WATER

“Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. For if we have been united together in the likeness of His death, certainly we also shall be in the likeness of His resurrection.”  Romans 6:4-5

In baptism, we who believe in Jesus are “buried with Him.” Our old selves—our past mistakes and sins—are put to death, losing their grip on us. When we rise from the waters of baptism, we emerge cleansed and renewed. Yet, this transformation only holds power if it’s rooted in sincere faith in Jesus, the Son of God. Water baptism alone cannot save; it is faith in Christ, followed by baptism, that leads to salvation. The Lord affirms, “He who believes and is baptized will be saved” (Mark 16:16 a). True baptism symbolizes dying to our old ways and rising anew, dedicating ourselves to living a sincere, Christ-centered life.

When we truly surrender to Jesus, we die with Him through baptism. And if we have died with Him, we are also resurrected by the same Spirit that raised Him from the dead. Alive in Christ, we echo Paul’s words: “For to me, to live is Christ, and to die is gain” (Philippians 1:21).

SUGGESTED PRAYER

My Lord, You endured so much, taking my place in death, and in You, I too have died to my old self through faith and baptism. Words fall short to express my gratitude for all You have done for me! Father, strengthen me to resist my old nature, not to give in to its desires, but to crucify it daily as I follow Your leading. Because I died with Jesus, I want to live with Jesus and fulfill Your purpose for my life. Amen
