ENVY AND SELF-SEEKING ARE THE BEGINNING OF EVIL
“For where envy and self-seeking exist, confusion and every evil thing are there.” – James 3:16
It’s not enough to speak correctly and behave well; we need to have a pure heart and a renewed mind through God’s Word. If we consider ourselves wise and righteous before God but harbor jealousy and selfish ambitions, we are deceiving ourselves, and God’s truth is not in us. Living this way is “earthly, unspiritual, even demonic.”
Our thinking patterns influence our decisions, which are later reflected in our emotions and speech. Jesus is the Word and the Truth, and only by knowing Him can we become truly free. It takes time and effort to change and allow God’s Word to replace old, worldly ways of thinking.
Those who live with malice, envy, jealousy, and selfishness are deceived, and all manner of evil can infiltrate their lives. One evil decision leads to another, multiplying and causing harm not only to the individual but also to those around them. However, the Lord can heal, restore, and transform anyone who seeks His help. God loves everyone and desires that all be saved and become His children. Glory to the Lord!
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Heavenly Father, please help me keep my heart pure and humble, not considering myself wise in my own capacity. Help me to resist selfishness, jealousy, envy, and other evil feelings. Lord, help me fight against all evil feelings and never quit until You grant me victory. Please give me Your wisdom, fill my heart with Your love and peace, and bestow upon me Your humility and meekness. Thank You and praise You forever and ever. Amen
