TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
11 DECEMBER, 2025
Matthew 11:11–15
“Truly I tell you, among those born of women
there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist;
yet whoever is least in the kingdom of heaven
is greater than he. From the days of John the Baptist until now,
the kingdom of heaven has been subjected to violence,
and violent people have been raiding it. For all the Prophets
and the Law prophesied until John.
And if you are willing to accept it,
he is the Elijah who was to come. Whoever has ears, let them hear.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
Jesus exalts John the Baptist as the greatest prophet—one who stood at the threshold of God’s new work in Christ. Yet Jesus reveals a profound mystery: even the least in the kingdom is greater than John. This is not a comparison of worth but a revelation of grace. Those who receive Jesus and live in His kingdom share in blessings and spiritual privileges John only announced from afar.
Jesus also speaks of a kingdom advancing amidst resistance. The good news does not enter a passive world; it meets opposition, misunderstanding, and spiritual struggle. Yet God’s purposes continue to unfold, and those with open hearts—those with “ears to hear”—recognize the fulfillment of prophecy in Jesus.
We are invited to hear deeply, respond faithfully, and stand firm as participants in God’s advancing kingdom.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for the gift of Your kingdom and for the grace that allows even the least of us to share in Your glory. Give me ears to hear Your voice and a heart willing to respond in faith. Strengthen me to stand firm amid challenges and to follow You with courage and humility. May my life bear witness to Your truth, just as John proclaimed Your coming. Amen
