TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
16 AUGUST, 2025
Matthew 19:13-15

Children were brought to Jesus
that he might lay his hands on them and pray.
The disciples rebuked them, but Jesus said,
“Let the children come to me, and do not prevent them;
for the Kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”
After he placed his hands on them, he went away.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, we see the tender heart of Jesus toward children. While the disciples tried to dismiss them as unimportant, Jesus embraced their presence and affirmed their place in God’s kingdom. He reminds us that the kingdom belongs to those who come with childlike trust, humility, and openness. Children symbolize innocence, dependence, and a willingness to receive love freely. Jesus not only blessed the children but also taught us that unless we cultivate such qualities, we cannot fully enter the kingdom of heaven. This calls us to examine our own hearts—are we carrying faith with simplicity and sincerity, or are we burdened with pride and self-sufficiency?

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for showing us the value of childlike faith and humility. Teach us to approach You with the same openness and trust as little children, free from pride and self-reliance. Help us to welcome others with the same love and gentleness with which You welcomed the children. May our hearts remain tender, pure, and ready to receive Your blessings. Amen
