TODAY’S GOSPEL READING – 3 JUNE

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
3 JUNE, 2026
Mark 12:18-27

Some Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection,
came to Jesus and put this question to him, saying,
“Teacher, Moses wrote for us,
If someone’s brother dies, leaving a wife but no child,
his brother must take the wife
and raise up descendants for his brother.
Now there were seven brothers.
The first married a woman and died, leaving no descendants.
So the second brother married her and died, leaving no descendants,
and the third likewise.
And the seven left no descendants.
Last of all the woman also died.
At the resurrection when they arise whose wife will she be?
For all seven had been married to her.”
Jesus said to them, “Are you not misled
because you do not know the Scriptures or the power of God?
When they rise from the dead,
they neither marry nor are given in marriage,
but they are like the angels in heaven.
As for the dead being raised,
have you not read in the Book of Moses,
in the passage about the bush, how God told him,
I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac,
and the God of Jacob?
He is not God of the dead but of the living.
You are greatly misled.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In Mark 12:18–27, the Sadducees question Jesus about the resurrection, trying to trap Him with a complicated story about marriage after death. Jesus responds by revealing that eternal life is beyond human categories and earthly limitations. He reminds them that God is “not God of the dead, but of the living.”

This passage invites us to trust that God’s plans are greater than our understanding. We often try to fit eternal realities into earthly logic, but faith calls us to believe in the life God promises beyond what we can fully see. Jesus points us toward hope — a hope rooted not in temporary things but in the living relationship God desires with us forever.

Our God is a God of life. Even in moments of grief, uncertainty, or fear, He calls us to live with resurrection hope, knowing that His love is stronger than death.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are the source of life and the promise of resurrection. Strengthen my faith when doubts arise and help me to trust in Your eternal plans. Teach me to live with hope, knowing that You hold my future in Your hands. Fill my heart with the courage to seek what is eternal rather than what is temporary. May my life reflect the joy and confidence of one who believes in the God of the living. Amen
