1 Peter 1: 3-4

1 December, 2022

Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade. This inheritance is kept in heaven for you. 1 Peter 1:3–4

Blessed are you, Lord God, Sovereign Maker of us all, God of Salvation of all who believe and are reborn in Christ. We have been recreated and saved as a favor of your goodness and mercy towards us, sinners, and as a consequence of the mighty power you unleashed to give us deliverance from spiritual death into life. You have offered us redemption as a free gift through the death and resurrection of our Lord Jesus.

You separated us from the threshold of sin, not because of our merit but because you have enveloped us with the cloak of your righteousness by the power of your saving grace. You have instlled us with living hope through the resurrection and ascension of Jesus into heaven. He established an everlasting inheritance for us in your Kingdom, purging us of sin and death by taking it upon himself. We continue waging war on the evil influences of our temporal earthly state, gaining strength from the assurance that Christ’s love and hope will continue to radiate in our lives.

Assist us, Merciful God, as we overcome earthly travails, keeping our gaze fixed on our real rewards which rest in your promise of imperishable providence and inheritance as your children, in your Presence, as Triune Godhead of Father, Son, Holy Spirit, in the company of the heavenly multitude. We persevere in striving to be deemed meritorious by living in Christ and for Christ and pursuing in accomplishing Christ’s mission in Christ’s Name. Amen
