TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
9 DECEMBER, 2025
Matthew 18:12-14
Jesus said to his disciples:
“What is your opinion?
If a man has a hundred sheep and one of them goes astray,
will he not leave the ninety-nine in the hills
and go in search of the stray?
And if he finds it, amen, I say to you, he rejoices more over it
than over the ninety-nine that did not stray.
In just the same way, it is not the will of your heavenly Father
that one of these little ones be lost.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
In the parable of the lost sheep, Jesus reveals the heart of God—a heart that notices the one who is missing. The shepherd leaves the ninety-nine not out of neglect, but out of love, because even one life matters deeply to Him. This passage reminds us that God’s care is personal, attentive, and relentless. No one is insignificant, forgotten, or beyond His loving search.
Jesus emphasizes that it is not the will of the Father that even one of these little ones be lost. God’s mercy does not count numbers; it seeks souls. When the lost sheep is found, there is joy, not judgment. This teaches us that God delights in restoration and rejoices when even a single person is brought back into His embrace.
This passage also challenges us to reflect God’s heart in our own lives. Do we notice those who are wandering, weak, or overlooked? Are we willing to step out of our comfort to seek, welcome, and care for them? True discipleship mirrors the Shepherd’s compassion and commitment to every person entrusted to us.

PRAYER
Loving Father, we thank You for Your tender and unfailing care, that You know each of us by name and value every life deeply. You are the Shepherd who never gives up on those who wander and never forgets even the smallest among us.
Teach us to trust in Your seeking love when we feel lost, discouraged, or far from You. Restore us gently when we stray, and remind us that we are always precious in Your sight.
Give us hearts like Yours, Lord—hearts that notice the lost, reach out with compassion, and rejoice in every soul that is restored. May we never grow indifferent to those in need, but become instruments of Your mercy and love. Amen
