TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
30 OCTOBER, 2025
📖 Luke 13:31-35

✠ Some Pharisees came to him and said,
“Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you.”
He replied, “Go and tell that fox,
‘Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow,
and on the third day I accomplish my purpose.
Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day,
for it is impossible that a prophet should die
outside of Jerusalem.’

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem,
you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you,
how many times I yearned to gather your children together
as a hen gathers her brood under her wings,
but you were unwilling!
Behold, your house will be abandoned.
But I tell you, you will not see me until the time comes when you say,
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus laments over Jerusalem’s hardness of heart and rejection of God’s messengers. Despite knowing that His path leads to suffering and death, He remains steadfast in His mission, moved by compassion for the very people who would reject Him. His cry, “How often I have longed to gather your children together,” reveals the tender heart of God—a parent yearning to protect His children, even when they turn away. This moment reminds us that divine love is persistent, patient, and sorrowful when we resist grace. Jesus’ lament is not of anger, but of love wounded by rejection, showing how deeply He desires our repentance and return.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You wept over Jerusalem because Your people refused Your call of love and mercy. Help me to recognize the times I have turned away from Your guidance and resisted Your will. Soften my heart to respond to Your voice and draw near to You in faith. Gather me under Your wings of protection and grace, that I may live in obedience and love. May my life reflect Your compassion to those who stray, and may I never lose sight of Your longing to save. Amen
