GLIMPSES OF GLORY ARE MEANT FOR THE VALLEYS
“His face shone like the sun, and His clothes became as white as the light.”
— Matthew 17:2
Before His Passion, Jesus revealed His divine glory to Peter, James, and John on the mountain. This extraordinary moment was not meant to spare them from suffering, but to strengthen their faith for the trials that lay ahead.
God also grants us moments of grace, peace, and deep awareness of His presence. These experiences are not meant to keep us on the mountaintop but to sustain us as we journey through life’s valleys. They become lasting reminders of His faithfulness when darkness surrounds us.
TRANSFIGURATION BEGINS IN THE CLIMB
“Jesus took Peter, James and John with Him and led them up a high mountain by themselves.”
— Matthew 17:1
The glory of the Transfiguration came only after the climb. Jesus first led His disciples away from the noise of daily life into a place of prayer and communion with the Father.
Our own spiritual transformation begins when we willingly make time for prayer, silence, and surrender. God often reveals Himself most clearly to hearts that seek Him with patience and openness.
LISTEN TO HIM
“This is My beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to Him.”
— Matthew 17:5
From the cloud, the Father revealed the true identity of Jesus and gave one clear command: “Listen to Him.” This remains the heart of every Christian life.
Christ continues to speak through Sacred Scripture, the teachings of the Church, the quiet voice of conscience, and the needs of those around us. A listening heart grows in wisdom, obedience, and intimacy with the Lord.
GLORY IS HIDDEN IN THE FAMILIAR
“When they lifted up their eyes, they saw no one but Jesus only.”
— Matthew 17:8
When the dazzling vision ended, only Jesus remained. Yet the disciples now knew Him more deeply than before.
The Lord is present not only in extraordinary spiritual experiences but also in the ordinary moments of daily life. Faith teaches us to recognise His presence in simple acts of love, prayer, service, and fidelity, even when no extraordinary signs are visible.
WE BECOME WHAT WE CONTEMPLATE
“And we all… are being transformed into His image from glory to glory.”
— 2 Corinthians 3:18
The purpose of contemplating Christ is not merely to admire Him but to become more like Him. The more we fix our hearts on His love, mercy, and holiness, the more His likeness is formed within us.
Every moment spent in prayer, every act of charity, and every faithful response to God’s grace gradually transforms us into reflections of His divine light.
LIGHT IS FOR SHARING
“You are the light of the world… let your light shine before others.”
— Matthew 5:14,16
The disciples could not remain on the mountain forever. They had to return to the world, carrying within them the memory of Christ’s glory and the strength to witness to Him.
Every encounter with God is meant to bear fruit in compassionate service, courageous faith, and joyful witness. The light we receive from Christ is a gift to be shared with others through our words, actions, and love.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You revealed Your divine glory on the holy mountain to strengthen Your disciples in faith. Lead us into a deeper life of prayer, teach us to listen to Your voice, and transform us into Your image each day. May Your light shine through our lives so that others may come to know and love You. Give us the courage to carry the joy of the mountain into the ordinary moments of daily life until we share forever in Your eternal glory. Amen.
