Isaiah 9:2

19 December, 2022

The people who walk in darkness Will see a great light; Those who live in a dark land, the light will shine on them.Isaiah 9:2

Almighty God of Majesty and Might, you are our Stronghold and Sanctuary. We rest in you and are one in Being with you, through your Son Jesus Christ. Through him, you created the whole universe and through him the darkness of the earth became Light, for Jesus is the Light of all light, and dispels the darkness of sin, destroying it and converting it to light.

Since the time of the Old Testament, when it was prophesied that a Messiah would redeem the world, people  eagerly awaited his coming, as apostasy spread and the darkness of iniquity, blasphemy and heresy covered the world in a thick shroud of darkness. People who were God’s chosen, awaited for an end to the despondent gloom of hatred and violence into which they were steeped. The Messiah would radiate his Light of purity and sanctity and annihilate evil.

Lord, you are a God of Faithfulness, Righteousness and Deliverance. You sent hope into the world when you sent your beloved Son Jesus, to rescue and restore us to a life stretching into eternity, diminishing the snares of vile wickedness and cutting through barriers,, vanquishing the malignant foe. Father, lead all your people, through faith, into the Light of your grace. Help us to dwell in your gracious radiance and spread it to all, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
