If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. – John 13: 14
Dear Heavenly Father, full of Mercy and Compassion, what a beautiful example the Lord Jesus Christ gave us of how we should conduct our lives, in pure humility of purpose. May we decrease in all we say and do so that our new life in Christ may increase in us. Christ is the Way, the Truth and the Life, and in treading in his footsteps we can never go wrong. Service should be our motto, and selfless service with love, our attitude.
Heavenly Father, your creation is vast and wondrous, immense to fathom and impossible to comprehend. You are our Creator, and we bow to you in humble reverence, rightly giving you praise, worship and gratitude. By your mercy and unconditional love Lord, you have saved us from sin, death and eternal separation by condemnation. You have manifested abundantly your graces to all who believe, by their faith.
Our Lord Jesus came to earth in the poorest of circumstances, born in a humble manger. He lived unknown and unrecognized, reticent and reserved and started his ministry teaching, saving sinners, healing the sick and maimed, raising the dead to life, in an exemplary life of service to the poor, inculcating in his followers the need to shed hypocrisy and boastfulness and adopt humility and service as virtues of godliness.
When he washed the feet of his disciples a few days before his death, he displayed to all people the manner in which our lives should be lived, to be counted among the blessed. We pray that we may adopt an attitude of humble service, for to humble ourselves is to decrease ourselves and so let Christ increase in us. It is to die to self and live for the good of all who are in need. To manifest your compassion, dear Father, towards all, by Christlike attributes, and by our love and fellowship among our brethren, is to be performing your Holy Will, dear Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
Grant us the courage and generosity to accept Jesus’ humble service and unconditional love, by making him the mainstay of our everyday life, seeking him in all we do and transferring the same love to our fellowmen, living out Jesus’ instruction, to do to others what he does to us. Lord, our commission was not intended to stop at the Church door. We need to bear witness and be of service to humanity, in every sphere of life.
In the present times, it is easy for us to become disappointed or diminished when we face obstacles, blocks and adversity. To be with Jesus in these days requires humility and patience as we await with hope, for the coming of the fullness of your truth and glory to dawn on us. Lord, my prayer is to fulfill your Will in your Way, whatever the circumstances, in quiet assurance and faith that we will see, through our service to all, your ultimate service in restoring us to you, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
