And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me. – Matthew 18:3-5

Heavenly Father, You are Gracious and Merciful, and we come before You with humble hearts, seeking to understand the depth of Your Word. In Matthew 18:3-5, You call us to become like little children in order to enter the kingdom of heaven. Lord, help us to shed our pride, self-reliance, and hardened hearts, and embrace the simplicity, trust, and purity that mark a child’s heart. Teach us to approach You with wonder and complete dependence, knowing that Your grace is sufficient for us in every moment.

Lord Jesus, You showed us that true greatness in the kingdom is found in humility. You placed a child in the midst of Your disciples to illustrate the kind of heart You cherish—one that is meek, teachable, and free from worldly ambition. May we be transformed daily into people who do not seek position or praise, but rather seek to serve and honor You with sincerity. Let our actions and words reflect the humility of Christ, who came not to be served but to serve.

Gracious God, You also remind us that welcoming a little one in Your name is welcoming You. Help us to see Your image in every child and in every person who holds a humble heart. Let us not despise the lowly or overlook the vulnerable. Instead, give us grace to love, honor, and protect those whom the world may consider insignificant. May our lives be a reflection of Your heart—a heart that cherishes the least, uplifts the humble, and rejoices in the simplicity of childlike faith. Amen
