MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 10 FEBRUARY

THE 10th OF FEBRUARY

WHEN WE SUFFER, IT BECOMES HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE ENEMY’S LIES AND STAND FIRM AGAINST THEM.

“So she said to Elijah, ‘What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?'” – 1 Kings 17:18

How quickly we forget God’s goodness when faced with life’s trials! The widow of Zarephath is a prime example. She had been prepared to eat her last meal with her son and succumb to starvation when God, through Elijah, miraculously provided for them. Yet, when her son died, she lost sight of the Lord’s previous provision. She forgot that without God’s intervention, she would have already perished alongside her son.

Overwhelmed by grief, the widow believed the enemy’s lie—that her sins had caused her son’s death and that God had taken him to punish her. Yet, if that were true, why would the Lord have spared her and her son during the famine? God’s plan was not one of condemnation but restoration. As the following verses show, “The Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the soul of the child came back to him, and he revived” (1 Kings 17:22).

Elijah responded to this tragedy by holding on to faith, praying fervently for the child’s life, and trusting in God’s power to intervene. He refused to give in to despair. In moments of hopelessness, do we respond like the grieving mother, believing the enemy’s lies, or like Elijah, trusting God and praying in faith for deliverance?

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Father God, help me to always remember Your goodness and the countless ways You have answered my prayers. You have been faithful in showing love and mercy to me and those I have lifted to You in prayer. Strengthen my trust in You, especially during difficult times, as Elijah did. May I resist the enemy’s lies and stand firm in faith, knowing that You always work for my good. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen
