MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 10th FEBRUARY

THE 10th OF FEBRUARY

WHEN WE SUFFER, IT IS HARDER TO RECOGNIZE THE ENEMY’S LIES AND FIGHT AGAINST THEM

So she said to Elijah, “What have I to do with you, O man of God? Have you come to me to bring my sin to remembrance, and to kill my son?” – 1 Kings 17:18

How fast do we forget the good that God did for us when we went through life’s tribulations! The widow from Zarephath is no exception. She had been ready to eat the last meal with her son and then starve to death, before God sent Elijah and miraculously provided for them. But once her son died, she forgot that if the Lord had not multiplied her flour and oil through Elijah, she would have been dead too, not only her son.

Because her pain was so great, the mother believed the lie of the devil, that her sin were the cause of her son’s death. She was convinced that God had taken her son, to punish her for a past sin. If it were the Lord’s plan, He would not have provided food for them during the drought, and would have let both, mother and son, die. From the following verses we learn that “the Lord heard the voice of Elijah, and the child’s soul returned to him and rose again” (1 Kings 17:22).

The prophet Elijah chose to believe and fight for the resurrection of the child, instead of giving up in despair. What do we do when it seems that there is no way out? Do we have the mother’s attitude, or Elijah’s? Do we believe the lies of the evil one or do we pray in faith to the Lord to help us out?

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Father God, please help me to never forget Your kindness and the wonderful way You answered my prayers since I am Your child. You have always done the best for me and those I have prayed for. Please help me trust more in Your love and in Your desire to help me and do the best for me, no matter what I am going through! In the Name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
