MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 11 JANUARY

THE 11th OF JANUARY

THE MESSAGE OF THE GOSPEL

Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you–unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures. – 1 Corinthians 15:1-4

After we have heard the gospel, it is not enough to just receive it temporarily to be saved, but we are to live according to truth of the gospel, until the end, “or else we believed in vain.” The first essential truth for salvation is that Jesus Christ died for our sins and did not remain dead in a tomb but on the third day He was resurrected, fulfilling the written prophecies about Him from the Old Testament.

We are called to tell others the good news of the gospel, all that Jesus has done for mankind. Jesus died for the sins of all people, of all time, but only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God who died for their sins, asking Him to become the Lord of their lives and asking forgiveness for all their sins, sincerely regretting them, will receive the benefits of Jesus’ sacrifice. After this first step, the life of faith continues.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Lord Jesus, I believe that You are the Son of the Living God and trust that You sacrificed Your life for my sins, that I may live. I deeply abhor that I have sinned against You. Please forgive me and help me not to commit sin again. Come into my heart, Lord, and become the Saviour of my life. Please help me to change, and to live to please You. Amen
