THE 11th OF FEBRUARY
HOW MANY MIRACLES DO WE NEED TO RECOGNIZE GOD’S HAND AT WORK?
Then the woman said to Elijah, “Now by this I know that you are a man of God, and that the word of the Lord in your mouth is the truth ” – 1 Kings 17:24
It seems incredible that this widow needed more confirmation, although she used the unending flour daily for the dough and the continuous oil from the same pot, to bake the food for three people, without fail, over a long period. The Bible does not tell us the length of time, but it could have been more than two years, because from the first verse of chapter 18, we find out that three years of drought had passed since Elijah hid by the Brook Cherith.
Only after Elijah returned the widow’s resurrected son to her, did she know in her heart too, not only in her head, that Elijah was a man of God and a real prophet that spoke God’s truth! She needed the second miracle to truly be transformed! How many times have we been just like this widow? It is sad that it is more natural to us, to doubt and lack in faith, than trust that God loves us and wants the best for us, no matter how bad our situation is.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Oh Lord, I need Your help with every step, to be able to be led by Your Spirit and not my doubtful flesh, and when doubt tries to settle in, to fight against it! Please help me never forget Your love, mercy and kindness that lasts forever. You promised me to never leave me nor forsake me. In Jesus I have all I need to have strong faith, be confident in who You created me to be and live according to Your will! Thank You from the bottom of my heart. Amen
