THE 6th OF APRIL
TO LIVE A HOLY LIFE, WE MUST MASTER OUR DESIRES
As obedient children, not conforming yourselves to the former lusts, as in your ignorance; but as He who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, because it is written, “Be holy, for I am holy.” – 1 Peter 1:14-16
Our heavenly Father deeply loves us and calls us to follow His ways for our own good. He desires the best for us, even more than we do ourselves. God alone knows the perfect good that fulfills His purpose for each of our lives. To fully walk in the abundant life He has prepared, we must turn away from the ways we once followed before knowing Jesus. Now, as His “obedient children,” we are to live differently.
We are instructed to be holy in every part of our lives—not just during church or spiritual activities. Unfortunately, for many people, this command is often forgotten the moment they leave church, or even while they are there, as sinful thoughts still linger in their minds. Jesus is holy, and our goal is to reflect His holiness in every thought, word, feeling, and action.
The journey of sanctification takes time. Renewing our minds to think according to God’s Word is a process that demands dedication and the help of the Holy Spirit. Letting go of harmful attitudes and changing how we react in various situations requires both effort and divine strength. The more we spend time with the Lord—reading the Bible, praying, praising, and worshiping—the more we will grow in His character and holiness. And when we fall short, sincere and immediate repentance is necessary, along with a commitment not to repeat the same mistakes. The Holy Spirit is always near and ready to guide and strengthen us when we call on Him.
SUGGESTED PRAYER
Dear Lord, I truly desire to become all that You want me to be. Please help me to change so that holiness marks every part of my life—my thoughts, emotions, words, and actions. Help me not to entertain the desires I once had when I didn’t know You. I want to obey You in everything and to long only for what You desire for me. Make me Your faithful and loving child. I trust that Your will is always the best for me. Thank You, Lord. Amen
