Philippians 4:4-7

22 December, 2020

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be evident to all. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:4–7

Lord, immeasurable is your mercy and immense your love. We find you rescuing us from dark places, holding us upright when our foot slips and nursing us to health in our infirmities. So uncomprehending are your ways that we hesitate and sway away, wilfully courting disaster in our lack of understanding of your perfect integrity. Lord, teach us to be still and meditate on your sacred promises which are unchanging.

Oftentimes Lord, the challenges we face on the road of being followers of the truth are so numerous, that we contemplate turning to gladder paths, which offer great joy and prosperity, but are, in reality, diversions of evil nature beckoning us, to defeat the very purpose we work to achieve. We need to be committed, to take up our cross daily and to be steadfast, regardless of the cost.

Lord, your goodness and blessings are enough reasons to be elated and we offer you thanksgiving and glory in the knowledge that we belong to you and are children of the most high, the invincible God of faithfulness and righteousness. It is encouraging for us believers, to hold on to our faith and fix our eyes on Jesus, for it can truly find us great joy. For there is gladness where there is goodness and forgiveness where there is mercy and compassion.

Grant that we develop a spirit of humility, meekness and gentleness, in imitation of the character of our Lord Jesus, for it is living in Christ and for Christ which will earn us salvation. Lord, you are close to the brokenhearted, we beseech you to manifest your presence in our lives in these tumultuous times of distress and desolation, when we need to feel your healing touch. We implore you to hear our petitions and grant us your salvific peace which will guard and keep safe our hearts and minds, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
