Has God forgotten to be merciful? Has he in anger withheld his compassion? Then I thought, “To this I will appeal: the years when the Most High stretched out his right hand. I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago. I will consider all your works and meditate on all your mighty deeds.” Psalm 77:9–12
Father in Heaven, all glory and splendor is yours forevermore. You are our Stronghold and Sanctuary, our God of infinite Goodness and inexhaustible Mercy. Your light shines unceasingly in your promises, your plans to prosper and bless us are our consolation in times of sorrow and distress. When darkness becomes so unfathomable that it threatens to plunge our hearts into unending dismay, our trusting hearts are given comfort by your Holy Spirit and we remember past favors, mercy and fulfillment of your promises. Our unbelief is quenched by the living waters of our undeterred faith in your faithfulness, dear God and we are revived with hope that the season of dryness and frustration will be shortened by the Mighty Power of your redeeming Hand, with which you uphold us. Your hand of strength and mercy can shorten the duration of the darkness of death and evil, until your flaming light reveals your grace to your children and to the whole world. As we contemplate in anguish, memories of your wondrous deeds stir, revive and rebuild our confidence in you, Father God. We yield to the workings of your Holy Will, believing in your Providence for your children, already firmly established and which we will receive with mighty deliverance in patiently adhering to your plans and proclaiming your glory with renewed faith. We implicitly place our trust in you, in Jesus’ Name. Amen
