FAITHFULNESS IN ADVERSITY
“Be faithful unto death, and I will give you the crown of life.”
— Revelation 2:10
Saint Richard faced great trials when his rightful appointment as Bishop of Chichester was opposed, leaving him homeless and deprived of his income. Instead of rebelling or losing heart, he accepted suffering with patience and trust in God. He lived simply, relying on the charity of others, even performing humble tasks like serving at the altar. His endurance in hardship teaches that fidelity to God is proven most in times of difficulty.
LOVE FOR POVERTY AND SIMPLICITY
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Despite his noble education and position, Richard chose a life of simplicity. Even as a bishop, he lived austerely, rejecting luxury and focusing on spiritual riches. He ensured that Church resources were used wisely and for the good of the people. ZEAL FOR JUSTICE AND RIGHTEOUSNESS

Richard was deeply committed to reforming the Church and ensuring moral discipline among clergy. He courageously addressed corruption and upheld justice, even when it brought opposition. As Bishop of Chichester, Richard was a devoted shepherd to his people. O loving God,
