1 DECEMBER, 2025
Matthew 8:5-11
When Jesus had entered Capernaum, a centurion came to Him, pleading with Him, saying,
“Lord, my servant is lying at home paralyzed, dreadfully tormented.”
And Jesus said to him, “I will come and heal him.”
The centurion answered and said, “Lord, I am not worthy
that You should come under my roof. But only say the word, and my servant will be healed.
For I also am a man under authority, having soldiers under me.
And I say to this one, ‘Go,’ and he goes; and to another, ‘Come,’ and he comes;
and to my servant, ‘Do this,’ and he does it.”
When Jesus heard it, He marveled and said to those who followed,
“Assuredly, I say to you, I have not found such great faith,
not even in Israel!
And I say to you that many will come from east and west,
and sit down with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
This Gospel reveals a remarkable encounter between Jesus and a Roman centurion—a man outside the community of Israel, yet filled with profound faith. The centurion recognized Jesus’ authority in a way even those closest to Jesus often struggled to do. He understood that the power of Christ’s word was enough to heal, restore, and transform, even from a distance. His humility—“I am not worthy”—paired with his confidence in Jesus’ power, becomes a model for every believer who approaches God with trust rather than entitlement.
The centurion’s faith teaches us that God responds not to status, background, or proximity, but to sincere belief. Jesus marvels at this faith, showing us that true trust in Him moves His heart deeply. This passage reminds us that the kingdom of God is open to all who believe, and that great faith is found not in outward religiosity but in an inner confidence that Jesus’ word is enough.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I come before You as the centurion did—with humility and trust. Strengthen my faith to believe in the power of Your word and to rely on Your authority over every circumstance in my life. Teach me to surrender with confidence, knowing that You are able to heal, restore, and guide me even when I cannot see the outcome. Help me to grow in a faith that marvels Your heart and draws me closer to Your kingdom. Amen
