TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
10 MAY, 2025
John 6:60-69
Many of Jesus’ disciples who were listening said,
“This saying is hard; who can accept it?”
Since Jesus knew that his disciples were murmuring about this,
he said to them, “Does this shock you?
What if you were to see the Son of Man ascending
to where he was before?
It is the spirit that gives life,
while the flesh is of no avail.
The words I have spoken to you are Spirit and life.
But there are some of you who do not believe.”
Jesus knew from the beginning the ones who would not believe
and the one who would betray him.
And he said,
“For this reason I have told you that no one can come to me
unless it is granted him by my Father.”
As a result of this,
many of his disciples returned to their former way of life
and no longer accompanied him.
Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?”
Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go?
You have the words of eternal life.
We have come to believe
and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
As the crowd were confused on what Jesus had taught, many of them turned back and didn’t followed Him anymore except the Disciples whom He chose. On the part of Peter, his answer to Jesus was full of wisdom and it was due to his great faith that he could comprehend the Words of our King. This is the reason why we need to strengthen our personal relationship with the Lord allowing the things He taught to penetrate into our hearts and put it into practice. And the fact that all of us will die physically but if we believe in the teachings of Jesus definitely we too will be resurrected in the end, is certain. Thus, it’s time to spread the truth about the Words of eternal life which were written in the Holy Bible including His teaching about mercy, Faith, Hope, Love forgiveness and as well as His passion, death and resurrection. Indeed all of these things will give us life and as we eat at His banquet which is the Holy Eucharist we are securing a place in His Kingdom.
PRAYER
My Lord and my God, you have spoken in this Gospel passage about those whom God the Father had chosen to be your followers. Please allow me to be one of them and I know that if it’s your Will it will happen. Please be merciful towards me as I wait for my redemption. Grant me a heart able to give and expect nothing in return for in this way I will carry your love forever, a treasure worthy to be kept in my heart. Amen
