TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
11 JUNE, 2025
Matthew 5:17-19

Jesus said to his disciples:
“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.
I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.
Amen, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away,
not the smallest letter or the smallest part of a letter
will pass from the law,
until all things have taken place.
Therefore, whoever breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do so
will be called least in the Kingdom of heaven.
But whoever obeys and teaches these commandments
will be called greatest in the Kingdom of heaven.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus emphasizes that He has not come to abolish the Law or the Prophets, but to fulfill them. His words reveal a deep respect for the divine law and a commitment to its eternal truth. Far from discarding the commandments, Jesus intensifies their meaning, showing that righteousness must exceed mere legalism and reach the heart. He calls His followers to live with integrity, upholding God’s Word in both belief and action.

Jesus affirms the enduring value of Scripture, stating that not even the smallest letter or stroke will disappear from the Law until all is accomplished. This reminds us that God’s Word is not temporary or outdated, but living and active. We are called to study, honor, and live by it, not selectively but wholly, allowing it to shape our character and choices.

This teaching challenges us to go beyond superficial obedience and seek a heart aligned with God’s will. Those who honor and teach His commandments will be considered great in the Kingdom of Heaven. It is a call to live faithfully, teaching others not just with words, but by example—a life that reflects the fulfillment of the Law through love, mercy, and truth.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You came not to abolish the Law but to fulfill it. Teach me to treasure Your Word and walk in obedience, not merely in outward actions but in the sincerity of my heart. May I seek to understand Your truth deeply and live it with grace and humility.

Help me to be faithful in the small things, honoring every commandment, and not taking lightly what You hold dear. Strengthen my desire to live righteously—not for recognition, but to please You and reflect Your holiness in this world.

Make me a vessel of Your truth, O Lord, teaching and living according to Your will. Let my life be a light that leads others to Your Kingdom. In all I do, may I magnify You, who is the fulfillment of all righteousness. Amen
