TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
13 DECEMBER, 2025
Matthew 17:9 a, 10-13
As they were coming down from the mountain,
the disciples asked Jesus,
“Why do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?”
He said in reply, “Elijah will indeed come and restore all things;
but I tell you that Elijah has already come,
and they did not recognize him but did to him whatever they pleased.
So also will the Son of Man suffer at their hands.”
Then the disciples understood
that he was speaking to them of John the Baptist.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
As Jesus comes down from the mountain, He instructs His disciples to remain silent about the vision they have witnessed. This moment teaches that some encounters with God require patience and discernment before they are shared. The disciples’ question about Elijah reveals their struggle to understand God’s plan through familiar expectations. Jesus gently clarifies that Elijah has already come in the person of John the Baptist, whose call to repentance was rejected. This passage invites us to recognize God’s work even when it unfolds differently than we expect, and to remain faithful even when truth is misunderstood or opposed.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, help me to listen attentively to Your voice and to trust Your wisdom, even when I do not fully understand Your ways. Give me the grace to recognize Your presence in unexpected moments and people. Strengthen my faith to remain steadfast when Your truth is challenged, and shape my heart to respond with humility and obedience. Amen
