TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
14 JUNE, 2026
Matthew 9:36–10:8

At that time, when Jesus saw the crowds, He had compassion for them because they were troubled and abandoned, like sheep without a shepherd. Then He said to His disciples, “The harvest is abundant but the laborers are few; so ask the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest.”

Jesus summoned His twelve disciples and gave them authority over unclean spirits to drive them out and to cure every disease and every illness.

The names of the twelve apostles are these: first, Simon called Peter, and his brother Andrew; James, the son of Zebedee, and his brother John; Philip and Bartholomew; Thomas and Matthew the tax collector; James, the son of Alphaeus, and Thaddeus; Simon the Cananean, and Judas Iscariot who betrayed Him.

Jesus sent out these twelve after instructing them thus: “Do not go into pagan territory or enter a Samaritan town. Go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel. As you go, make this proclamation: ‘The Kingdom of Heaven is at hand.’ Cure the sick, raise the dead, cleanse lepers, drive out demons. Without cost you have received; without cost you are to give.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

The heart of this Gospel is the compassion of Jesus. He does not merely look at the crowds; He sees their pain, confusion, loneliness, and spiritual hunger. His response is not judgment but mercy. From that compassion flows His mission.

Jesus then calls ordinary men and entrusts them with an extraordinary task. The apostles are not chosen because they are perfect, but because they are willing to follow Him. He empowers them to bring healing, hope, and the Good News of God’s Kingdom to others.

This Gospel reminds us that every Christian is called to participate in Christ’s mission. We are sent to be instruments of His love through our words, prayers, kindness, and service. The harvest remains abundant today, and the Lord continues to seek willing laborers who will bring His compassion to a world in need.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, Your heart is filled with compassion for all who are weary, lost, and burdened. Open my eyes to see others as You see them and fill my heart with Your love. Make me a faithful worker in Your harvest, ready to serve wherever You call me. Help me to share Your peace, bring hope to the discouraged, and reflect Your mercy in all that I do. May my life proclaim that Your Kingdom is near. Amen
