TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
16 SEPTEMBER, 2025
Luke 7:11-17
Jesus journeyed to a city called Nain,
and his disciples and a large crowd accompanied him.
As he drew near to the gate of the city,
a man who had died was being carried out,
the only son of his mother, and she was a widow.
A large crowd from the city was with her.
When the Lord saw her,
he was moved with pity for her and said to her,
“Do not weep.”
He stepped forward and touched the coffin;
at this the bearers halted,
and he said, “Young man, I tell you, arise!”
The dead man sat up and began to speak,
and Jesus gave him to his mother.
Fear seized them all, and they glorified God, exclaiming,
“A great prophet has arisen in our midst,”
and “God has visited his people.”
This report about him spread through the whole of Judea
and in all the surrounding region.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
In this passage, Jesus meets a grieving widow whose only son has died. Moved with deep compassion, He touches the bier and restores the young man to life, giving him back to his mother. This moment reveals the tender heart of Christ, who not only has the power to conquer death but also enters into our pain with mercy. It reminds us that no situation is beyond His reach and no sorrow too deep for His love. His presence brings life where there is despair, and hope where there is mourning.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, I praise You for Your boundless compassion and power over every circumstance. Just as You looked with mercy on the widow of Nain, look upon me and those weighed down by grief or hopelessness. Touch the places in my heart that feel lifeless and speak Your word of life into them. Help me trust that nothing is too lost for Your saving hand. May I be an instrument of Your comfort to others, carrying Your hope to those who mourn. Amen
