TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
19 SEPTEMBER, 2025
Luke 8:1–3

Soon afterwards he went on through cities and villages,
proclaiming and bringing the good news of the kingdom of God.
The twelve were with him,
as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities:
Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out,
and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza,
and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this short but powerful passage, Luke reminds us that the mission of Jesus was not carried out alone. He proclaimed the Kingdom of God, but He was accompanied not only by the Twelve apostles but also by faithful women who had experienced His healing and mercy. Mary Magdalene, Joanna, Susanna, and many others gave their time, resources, and presence to support His ministry.

This challenges the often narrow idea that discipleship is only about preaching or performing miracles. Here, discipleship is also about service, generosity, and gratitude. These women, once broken or marginalized, became essential collaborators in Christ’s mission. Their lives testify that those who have encountered the saving power of Jesus are called to share in His work, each in their own way.

For us, this passage invites reflection on how we, too, support the mission of Christ today. We may not all be apostles or preachers, but through our resources, skills, time, or presence, we can strengthen the spread of the Gospel. Jesus values every contribution, no matter how hidden, when it comes from love and gratitude.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You proclaimed the Good News with love and welcomed many to walk beside You.
Thank You for the example of Mary, Joanna, Susanna, and all who served You with grateful hearts.
Teach me to use my gifts, time, and resources to support Your mission today.
May my life, in both small and great ways, help bring Your light to others.
Strengthen me to follow You faithfully, with humility and generosity.
Amen
