TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
2 JUNE, 2025
John 16:29-33

The disciples said to Jesus,
“Now you are talking plainly, and not in any figure of speech.
Now we realize that you know everything
and that you do not need to have anyone question you.
Because of this we believe that you came from God.”
Jesus answered them, “Do you believe now?
Behold, the hour is coming and has arrived
when each of you will be scattered to his own home
and you will leave me alone.
But I am not alone, because the Father is with me.
I have told you this so that you might have peace in me.
In the world you will have trouble,
but take courage, I have conquered the world.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In these verses, Jesus reveals both the disciples’ fragile understanding and His deep assurance in the Father’s plan. Though the disciples express belief, Jesus gently points out their upcoming scattering in fear, emphasizing human frailty. Yet, He stands firm in confidence, knowing He is not alone because the Father is with Him. His final words in this passage are powerful: “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” This is our anchor—Christ’s victory over fear, sin, and death gives us peace amidst our storms. Though trials are certain, His overcoming is our assurance.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for Your honesty about the troubles we will face and for the peace You offer through Your presence. When fear and confusion scatter us, remind us that You are near and have already overcome. Strengthen our faith when it is weak, and fill our hearts with the courage that comes from knowing You are victorious. Help us to take heart, not in our strength, but in Yours. Amen
