John 14:27-31 a
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you.
Not as the world gives do I give it to you.
Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid.
You heard me tell you,
‘I am going away and I will come back to you.’
If you loved me,
you would rejoice that I am going to the Father;
for the Father is greater than I.
And now I have told you this before it happens,
so that when it happens you may believe.
I will no longer speak much with you,
for the ruler of the world is coming.
He has no power over me,
but the world must know that I love the Father
and that I do just as the Father has commanded me.”

REFLECTION
In this passage, Jesus offers a peace that transcends the temporary, fragile calm the world offers. As He prepares to face the cross, His concern is not for Himself, but for His disciples’ comfort and courage. His peace is anchored not in circumstances but in His union with the Father and His victory over the prince of this world.
Jesus’ words remind us that divine peace is not the absence of trouble but the presence of Christ in the midst of it. It is a settled assurance, born from trusting in His sovereignty and love. In times of uncertainty or fear, this peace becomes our anchor.
He calls us not only to receive this peace but also to reject fear. This is not a call to suppress emotion, but a gentle command to entrust our hearts to Him, confident that the battle is already won.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for the peace You give — not as the world gives, fleeting and shallow, but deep, enduring, and rooted in Your love. In a world full of anxiety and unrest, help me receive and dwell in Your peace. Quiet my troubled heart and cast out fear from within me. Teach me to trust in Your victory over darkness and to rest in the assurance that You are with me. May Your Spirit guide me into all truth and comfort, so that I may walk with courage and hope each day. Amen
