TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
24 MAY, 2025
John 15:18-21
Jesus said to his disciples:
“If the world hates you, realize that it hated me first.
If you belonged to the world, the world would love its own;
but because you do not belong to the world,
and I have chosen you out of the world,
the world hates you.
Remember the word I spoke to you,
‘No slave is greater than his master.’
If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept my word, they will also keep yours.
And they will do all these things to you on account of my name,
because they do not know the one who sent me.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
Jesus reminds His disciples that the world’s hatred is not a reflection of their failure, but a continuation of the world’s rejection of Him. As followers of Christ, we are not of the world, and thus we may face opposition and persecution. This passage calls us to remain steadfast in our faith, anchored in the love and truth of Jesus, even when misunderstood or mistreated. Our identity in Him sets us apart, and with that comes the calling to bear witness in humility and courage.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, thank You for choosing us out of the world to be Your own. When we face rejection, help us remember that You were rejected first. Strengthen our hearts to remain faithful in the midst of opposition. Fill us with Your love, that we may respond to hatred with grace, and shine Your light in a world that does not understand. Keep us grounded in Your truth, and give us courage to stand firm in our witness for You. Amen
