TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
25 SEPTEMBER, 2025
Luke 9:7-9
✠ A reading from the holy Gospel according to Luke:
Herod the tetrarch heard about all that was happening,
and he was greatly perplexed because some were saying,
“John has been raised from the dead”;
others were saying, “Elijah has appeared”;
still others, “One of the ancient prophets has arisen.”
But Herod said, “John I beheaded.
Who then is this about whom I hear such things?”
And he kept trying to see him.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
Herod was perplexed by the news of Jesus, hearing of His mighty works and wondering if He was John raised from the dead, Elijah, or another prophet come back. This passage shows how the fame of Christ reached even the powerful, leaving them unsettled and curious. Herod represents many who hear of Jesus but remain confused, unwilling to seek the truth with faith. Instead of recognizing Him as the Messiah, he is troubled and puzzled, caught between fear and curiosity. The lesson is clear: hearing about Jesus is not enough—we are called to seek Him personally and recognize Him for who He truly is, the Savior and Lord.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, You are the living Christ, greater than all the prophets and the One who brings life and salvation. Too often we are like Herod, curious but hesitant, hearing about You but not drawing near in faith. Open our hearts to seek You with sincerity, to recognize You as the Son of God, and to follow You with trust. Remove confusion and doubt, and grant us the grace to proclaim with certainty that You are Lord of all. Amen
