TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
28 December, 2025
Luke 2:41–52

Every year, Jesus’ parents went to Jerusalem for the feast of Passover. When Jesus was twelve years old, He stayed behind in the Temple without their knowledge. After three days of searching, Mary and Joseph found Him among the teachers, listening and asking questions.
Mary said to Him:
“Son, why have you done this to us? Your father and I have been looking for you with great anxiety.”

Jesus replied:
“Did you not know that I must be in my Father’s house?”

Jesus then returned to Nazareth with them and was obedient to them. Mary treasured all these things in her heart, and Jesus grew in wisdom, age, and favor before God and others.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

This Gospel shows us that even the Holy Family experienced confusion, anxiety, and misunderstanding.
Mary and Joseph did not fully understand Jesus’ mission, yet they trusted God and continued to love, guide, and care for Him. Jesus, though aware of His divine identity, chose obedience and humility within the family.
The scene reminds us that holiness does not mean a life without difficulty. It means walking together in faith, even when answers are unclear. Mary’s quiet response—treasuring everything in her heart—teaches us how to live with mystery, patience, and trust in God’s plan.

PRAYER

Lord God, You created us in love and placed us in the setting of a family. Faith is lived first in the family. The family is where love, obedience, patience, and faith are learned. Lord we are aware that even holy families face challenges. Confusion and worry are part of family life—what matters is how we respond to them.

Your plans may not always be clear. Like Mary and Joseph, we are invited to trust even when we do not fully understand.
Growth takes time. Jesus “grew in wisdom and grace.” Spiritual maturity is a journey, not a shortcut.

Help us to understand that holiness is built in daily love, patience, and faithfulness. A family rooted in Your Word, Your Will and Your Love becomes a place where faith grows. May our family stay always bound together in faith and love, setting before us the example of the Holy Family of Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Amen

Matthew 2:13-15, 19-23

When the magi had departed, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph in a dream and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother, flee to Egypt,
and stay there until I tell you.
Herod is going to search for the child to destroy him.”
Joseph rose and took the child and his mother by night
and departed for Egypt.
He stayed there until the death of Herod,
that what the Lord had said through the prophet might be fulfilled,
Out of Egypt I called my son.

When Herod had died, behold,
the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream
to Joseph in Egypt and said,
“Rise, take the child and his mother and go to the land of Israel,
for those who sought the child’s life are dead.”
He rose, took the child and his mother,
and went to the land of Israel.
But when he heard that Archelaus was ruling over Judea
in place of his father Herod,
he was afraid to go back there.
And because he had been warned in a dream,
he departed for the region of Galilee.
He went and dwelt in a town called Nazareth,
so that what had been spoken through the prophets
might be fulfilled,
He shall be called a Nazorean.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Matthew 2:13–15, 19–23 reveals a God who works quietly through obedience, courage, and trust amid uncertainty. Joseph’s readiness to listen to God’s voice in dreams and act without hesitation shows deep faith. He protects Mary and the child Jesus by fleeing into Egypt, embracing hardship for the sake of God’s plan. Even in exile and danger, God’s providence is active, guiding every step and fulfilling His promises. This passage reminds us that God often works through hidden paths—through displacement, waiting, and obedience—shaping salvation in ways we may not immediately understand.

PRAYER

Loving Father, You are the God who guides, protects, and fulfills Your promises even in times of fear and uncertainty. Grant us hearts like Joseph’s—attentive to Your voice, courageous in obedience, and trusting in Your direction. When our path feels unclear or difficult, help us to believe that You are still at work, leading us toward Your greater purpose. Shelter us under Your care, strengthen our faith in times of trial, and help us walk faithfully wherever You lead. Amen
