Luke 9:46-50

An argument arose among the disciples
about which of them was the greatest.
Jesus realized the intention of their hearts and took a child
and placed it by his side and said to them,
“Whoever receives this child in my name receives me,
and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.
For the one who is least among all of you
is the one who is the greatest.”

Then John said in reply,
“Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name
and we tried to prevent him
because he does not follow in our company.”
Jesus said to him,
“Do not prevent him, for whoever is not against you is for you.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

The disciples were thinking about greatness, but Jesus turned their attention toward a child—someone who had little status, power, or influence.

In God’s Kingdom, greatness is not measured by recognition, position, or how many people notice what we do. It is measured by humility, love, and our willingness to serve.

This speaks beautifully into the ordinary places where we live our vocation. Much of our service may never be applauded yet Jesus sees these hidden acts of love.

He also reminds us not to become possessive about God’s work. “Whoever is not against you is for you.”

We do not have to be the only ones serving, leading, or making a difference. There is room for others in God’s mission.

Today, Jesus invites us to let go of the need to be important and instead become available to love. The smallest act done with a humble heart can become great in God’s eyes.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, teach me to choose humility over recognition and service over self-importance. Help me welcome those who are easily overlooked and appreciate the good that others do in Your name.

Help me to foster unity among our fellowmen by working together, as children of God. May my ordinary acts of love become offerings that bring Your presence into my family, community, and ministry. Amen.
