TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
29 DECEMBER, 2025
Luke 2:22-35

When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses,
Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon.
This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel,
and the Holy Spirit was upon him.
It had been revealed to him by the Holy Spirit
that he would not see death before he had seen the Lord’s Christ.
Guided by the Spirit, he came into the temple;
and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to do for him what was customary under the law,
Simeon took him in his arms and praised God, saying:
“Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace,
according to your word,
for my eyes have seen your salvation,
which you prepared in the sight of all the peoples,
a light for revelation to the Gentiles,
and glory for your people Israel.”
The child’s father and mother were amazed at what was said about him.
And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother,
“Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel,
and to be a sign that will be contradicted
and you yourself a sword will pierce—so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In the quiet faithfulness of Simeon, we see a life shaped by waiting, trust, and hope. He did not rush God’s promise, nor did he grow weary in expectation. When the moment finally came, he recognized the Savior not through outward grandeur, but through the gentle presence of a child. His joy flowed from a heart attuned to God’s Spirit, teaching us that true fulfillment comes from recognizing God’s work in ordinary moments.

Simeon’s words also reveal that salvation is not without cost. The light of Christ exposes hearts, challenges comfort, and calls for surrender. Mary, too, is invited into this mystery of joy and sorrow intertwined. The path of faith is not always easy, but it is always purposeful, leading us deeper into God’s redeeming love.

PRAYER

Lord God, You fulfilled Your promise through the gift of Your Son, a light for all nations and hope for every heart. Grant us the grace to wait on You with trust, to recognize Your presence in the ordinary moments of our lives, and to welcome Your truth even when it challenges us. Strengthen us to carry our crosses with faith, and help us to live as bearers of Your light in the world. We place our lives in Your hands, confident that Your promises never fail. Amen
