TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
3 AUGUST, 2025
Luke 12:13-21

Someone in the crowd said to Jesus, “Teacher, tell my brother to share the inheritance with me.”

He replied to him, “Friend, who appointed me as your judge and arbitrator?”

Then he said to the crowd, “Take care to guard against all greed, for though one may be rich, one’s life does not consist of possessions.”

Then he told them a parable. “There was a rich man whose land produced a bountiful harvest. He asked himself, ‘What shall I do, for I do not have space to store my harvest?’

And he said, ‘This is what I shall do: I shall tear down my barns and build larger ones. There I shall store all my grain and other goods and I shall say to myself, “Now as for you, you have so many good things stored up for many years, rest, eat, drink, be merry!”’

But God said to him, ‘You fool, this night your life will be demanded of you; and the things you have prepared, to whom will they belong?’ Thus will it be for all who store up treasure for themselves but are not rich in what matters to God.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this parable, Jesus warns against the danger of greed and placing security in earthly possessions. The rich man, instead of sharing his abundance or seeking God’s will, decides to store up more for himself. His plans are suddenly interrupted by death, revealing the futility of his self-centered pursuits. The message is clear: life does not consist in the abundance of possessions, but in being rich toward God. We are reminded to examine where our true treasure lies—whether in temporal wealth or in the eternal richness of a life lived in faith, generosity, and dependence on God.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, You are the giver of every good and perfect gift. Teach me not to place my trust in wealth or material success, but to find my security in You. Help me to guard my heart against greed and to live with open hands, ready to bless others with what You have given me. May I never forget that my life is not measured by what I own, but by how faithfully I walk with You.

Make me rich in what truly matters—faith, love, and obedience. Keep my heart focused on eternity, that I may live each day in a way that pleases You. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen
