TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
30 JUNE, 2025
Matthew 8:18-22

When Jesus saw the great crowds all about him he gave orders to leave for the other side. One of the scribes then came up and said to him, ‘Master, I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have holes and the birds of the air have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head.’

Another man, one of his disciples, said to him, ‘Sir, let me go and bury my father first.’ But Jesus replied, ‘Follow me, and leave the dead to bury their dead.’

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this passage, Jesus challenges the comfort and hesitation of those who wish to follow Him. He highlights the cost of discipleship—no promises of ease or worldly security, just a life of obedience and trust. The would-be disciples express good intentions, but Jesus calls for immediate and wholehearted commitment, showing that following Him must take precedence over even the most important earthly concerns. True discipleship demands surrender, sacrifice, and a readiness to go wherever He leads, without delay or excuse.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You call me to follow You with a heart fully surrendered. Help me to lay aside all excuses, comforts, and distractions that hold me back. Teach me to trust in Your path, even when it’s hard and uncertain. May I not delay in responding to Your voice but walk in faithful obedience, knowing that life with You is worth every sacrifice. Amen
