TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
30 MAY, 2025
John 16:20-23
Jesus said to his disciples:
“Amen, amen, I say to you, you will weep and mourn,
while the world rejoices;
you will grieve, but your grief will become joy.
When a woman is in labor, she is in anguish because her hour has arrived;
but when she has given birth to a child,
she no longer remembers the pain because of her joy
that a child has been born into the world.
So you also are now in anguish.
But I will see you again, and your hearts will rejoice,
and no one will take your joy away from you.
On that day you will not question me about anything.
Amen, amen, I say to you,
whatever you ask the Father in my name he will give you.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
In this gospel passage, Jesus speaks tenderly to His disciples, preparing them for the sorrow they will soon face at His crucifixion. He acknowledges their impending grief but assures them that their sorrow will turn into joy. Like a woman who endures the pain of labor for the joy of new life, their suffering will be transformed through the resurrection. Jesus points to a time when they will no longer ask questions, for their hearts will be filled with unshakable joy, that no one can take away. This promise speaks to all believers: that in our darkest moments, God is already preparing a joy that is deeper than our pain and sorrow.
PRAYER
Gracious Lord, in moments of sorrow and uncertainty, remind us of Your promise that our pain will be turned into joy. Help us to trust in Your perfect timing and to hold fast to the hope of Your resurrection power. When our hearts are burdened, let us look to You, knowing that our questions will find their answers in Your presence. Fill us today with a peace that surpasses understanding and a joy that no one can take away. In Jesus’ Name. Amen
