TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
5 JUNE, 2025
John 17:20-26

Lifting up his eyes to heaven, Jesus prayed saying:
“I pray not only for these,
but also for those who will believe in me through their word,
so that they may all be one,
as you, Father, are in me and I in you,
that they also may be in us,
that the world may believe that you sent me.
And I have given them the glory you gave me,
so that they may be one, as we are one,
I in them and you in me,
that they may be brought to perfection as one,
that the world may know that you sent me,
and that you loved them even as you loved me.
Father, they are your gift to me.
I wish that where I am they also may be with me,
that they may see my glory that you gave me,
because you loved me before the foundation of the world.
Righteous Father, the world also does not know you,
but I know you, and they know that you sent me.
I made known to them your name and I will make it known,
that the love with which you loved me
may be in them and I in them.”

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In this final portion of Jesus’ High Priestly Prayer, He extends His intercession beyond His disciples to all future believers—those who would come to faith through their message. His deepest desire is unity: “that they all may be one, as You, Father, are in Me, and I in You.” This unity is not merely external agreement, but a deep spiritual oneness rooted in the very nature of the Trinity. Such unity testifies to the world of God’s love and Christ’s divine mission.

Jesus also speaks of glory—the glory He received from the Father and now shares with His followers. This glory is not human fame, but the radiant presence of divine love and truth. He longs for believers to be with Him and to behold His glory, a desire born out of deep love. His words remind us that our calling is not just to believe but to live in communion with one another and with God, reflecting divine love to a divided world.

This passage assures us that we are personally included in Jesus’ prayer. His love for us is eternal, His desire is intimacy, and His prayer is that our lives would reveal the love of God to all people. In a fragmented world, our unity becomes a powerful witness to the transforming power of Christ.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the love that You have shown us through Jesus Christ. We are humbled to know that even before we were born, Your Son prayed for us. Help us to live in the unity He desires—a unity shaped not by human agreement, but by divine love that transcends all barriers.

Lord Jesus, may Your glory be seen in us. May we live as people who reflect Your heart, Your holiness, and Your humility. Bind us together as one body, one family, one people, so the world may see Your love at work in and through us.

Holy Spirit, fill us with a longing for the presence of Christ and a desire to walk in love and truth. Teach us to cherish one another, to forgive freely, and to strive for peace. May the unity Jesus prayed for become real in our homes, churches, and communities—so that all may know we are Yours. Amen
