TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
5 JUNE, 2026
Mark 12:35-37

While Jesus was teaching in the temple courts, he asked, “Why do the teachers of the law say that the Messiah is the son of David? David himself, speaking by the Holy Spirit, declared:

‘The Lord said to my Lord:
“Sit at my right hand
until I put your enemies
under your feet.”’

David himself calls him ‘Lord.’ How then can he be his son?” And the large crowd listened to him with delight.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

Jesus invites the people to look beyond a limited understanding of the Messiah. Many expected only a political king from David’s family line, but Jesus reveals that the Messiah is far greater — He is both the promised descendant of David and the eternal Lord.

This passage reminds us that faith is not only about knowing facts about Jesus but recognizing who He truly is. We may sometimes reduce Jesus to someone who helps us in difficult moments, while forgetting that He is Lord over every part of our lives.

True discipleship begins when we allow Christ to reign in our hearts, decisions, relationships, and priorities.

The crowd listened with delight because Jesus opened their minds to deeper truth. We too are called to listen attentively and allow His Word to challenge and transform us.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, You are not only the Son of David but the Lord of all creation. Open my heart to recognize Your greatness and Your authority in my life. Help me to move beyond shallow faith and grow into a deeper relationship with You. Teach me to listen carefully to Your voice and to follow You with trust and obedience. Reign in my heart today and always. Amen
