TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
6 JANUARY, 2026
Mark 6:34-44
When Jesus saw the vast crowd, his heart was moved with pity for them,
for they were like sheep without a shepherd;
and he began to teach them many things.
By now it was already late and his disciples approached him and said,
“This is a deserted place and it is already very late.
Dismiss them so that they can go
to the surrounding farms and villages
and buy themselves something to eat.”
He said to them in reply,
“Give them some food yourselves.”
But they said to him,
“Are we to buy two hundred days’ wages worth of food
and give it to them to eat?”
He asked them, “How many loaves do you have? Go and see.”
And when they had found out they said,
“Five loaves and two fish.”
So he gave orders to have them sit down in groups on the green grass.
The people took their places in rows by hundreds and by fifties.
Then, taking the five loaves and the two fish and looking up to heaven,
he said the blessing, broke the loaves, and gave them to his disciples
to set before the people;
he also divided the two fish among them all.
They all ate and were satisfied.
And they picked up twelve wicker baskets full of fragments
and what was left of the fish.
Those who ate of the loaves were five thousand men.
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION
Life may seem harsh yet there is hope for just as how those crowd that time were fed by the Lord, we too will never be abandoned if we only trust our King and ask Him what we want for it will be granted since Jesus is the most generous of all. We could also read in this Gospel how the Apostle’s were troubled on where to find food for the crowd.
So Jesus performed a miracle by multiplying the five loaves of bread and two fish, bringing with them twelve baskets full of what was left, and the number of people that time was five thousand. Imagine how a small amount of fish and bread had fed such a great crowd, but the fact that Jesus make the impossible possible, is the reason why everyone went home happy and satisfied not only with the wisdom Jesus gave them through the things that He taught but they were also nourished with the food that their body needed.
On the other hand, when things went wrong we could also feel the unfathomable love of our King but such things will happen if we come to Him and ask with a firm faith. Moreover, there will be more provisions God will send not only physically but spiritually as well for Jesus will keep on sending His Holy word to guide us especially in these crucial days.
Lastly, our trust is necessary as well as our faith to God will lead us to be nourished physically and spiritually which will be achieved if we read the Gospel daily, receive the Sacraments especially the Holy Eucharist, for in this way we will not die spiritually.
PRAYER
My Jesus, I trust you with all my heart, with all my soul and with all my mind. And despite of the great famine that this world experienced as of the moment I know I will never be hungry for you will provide me with the physical foods that my body needs. Moreover, thank you for your Holy Word that you sent as our guide in these crucial days that we experienced. Amen
