TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
7 JUNE, 2025
John 21:20-25

Peter turned and saw the disciple following whom Jesus loved,
the one who had also reclined upon his chest during the supper
and had said, “Master, who is the one who will betray you?”
When Peter saw him, he said to Jesus, “Lord, what about him?”
Jesus said to him, “What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?
You follow me.”
So the word spread among the brothers that that disciple would not die.
But Jesus had not told him that he would not die,
just “What if I want him to remain until I come?
What concern is it of yours?”

It is this disciple who testifies to these things
and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.
There are also many other things that Jesus did,
but if these were to be described individually,
I do not think the whole world would contain the books
that would be written.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

As Peter turns and sees John following, he asks Jesus, “Lord, what about him?” Jesus gently redirects Peter’s focus with the words, “If I want him to remain until I return, what is that to you? You must follow me.” This moment speaks volumes about our tendency to compare, to look sideways instead of forward. Jesus calls each of us to a unique path. Our task is not to measure ourselves against others, but to remain faithful to our own calling, trusting that God’s plans for others are in His hands.

John concludes the Gospel affirming the truth of his witness and recognizing that the works of Jesus are beyond full comprehension. It’s a humbling reminder that while we are given glimpses of Christ’s glory and mission, we do not need to know it all to believe. Faith is about trust, not total understanding.

In a world that constantly invites comparison and competition, this passage teaches contentment, focus, and devotion. Jesus calls us—individually—to follow Him, regardless of how He leads others.

PRAYER

Lord Jesus, thank You for the gentle yet powerful reminder that my journey with You is personal and precious. Forgive me for the times I look to others instead of keeping my eyes fixed on You. Teach me to trust in Your plans for others without comparison or envy. Help me to follow You with faithfulness and joy, knowing that You have written a story for me that is filled with grace and purpose. May I be content in walking with You, wherever You lead. Amen
