John 6:51-58
Jesus said to the crowds:
“I am the living bread that came down from heaven. Whoever eats this bread will live forever; and the bread that I will give is my flesh for the life of the world.”
The Jews quarreled among themselves, saying, “How can this man give us his flesh to eat?” Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood, you do not have life within you. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, and I will raise him on the last day. For my flesh is true food, and my blood is true drink. Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me and I in him.
Just as the living Father sent me and I have life because of the Father, so also the one who feeds on me will have life because of me. This is the bread that came down from heaven. Unlike your ancestors who ate and still died, whoever eats this bread will live forever.”
THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!
REFLECTION
Jesus reveals Himself as the Bread of Life, given for the salvation of the world. In the Holy Eucharist, He offers not merely a symbol, but His very self — His Body and Blood — as nourishment for our souls. Through this sacred gift, Christ remains with us, strengthens us in weakness, and unites us deeply to Him.
The Eucharist is the heart of Christian life. Every time we receive Jesus with faith and reverence, He fills us with grace, peace, and spiritual strength. He invites us not only to receive Him at the altar, but also to remain in Him through prayer, obedience, love, and charity.
This passage reminds us that eternal life begins even now when we live in communion with Christ. The Bread from heaven satisfies the deepest hunger of the human heart — the hunger for God, for truth, for love, and for everlasting life.
PRAYER
Lord Jesus, Living Bread from heaven, thank You for giving Yourself completely for the life of the world. Deepen my love for the Holy Eucharist and help me to receive You with faith, humility, and gratitude. Remain in me and strengthen me to live according to Your will each day. Nourish my soul with Your grace and lead me to eternal life with You. Amen
