TODAY’S GOSPEL READING – 1 JUNE

TODAY’S GOSPEL READING
1 JUNE, 2026
Mark 12:1-12

Jesus began to speak to the chief priests, the scribes,
and the elders in parables.
“A man planted a vineyard, put a hedge around it,
dug a wine press, and built a tower.
Then he leased it to tenant farmers and left on a journey.
At the proper time he sent a servant to the tenants
to obtain from them some of the produce of the vineyard.
But they seized him, beat him,
and sent him away empty-handed.
Again he sent them another servant.
And that one they beat over the head and treated shamefully.
He sent yet another whom they killed.
So, too, many others; some they beat, others they killed.
He had one other to send, a beloved son.
He sent him to them last of all, thinking, ‘They will respect my son.’
But those tenants said to one another, ‘This is the heir.
Come, let us kill him, and the inheritance will be ours.’
So they seized him and killed him,
and threw him out of the vineyard.
What then will the owner of the vineyard do?
He will come, put the tenants to death,
and give the vineyard to others.
Have you not read this Scripture passage:

The stone that the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone;
by the Lord has this been done,
and it is wonderful in our eyes?”

They were seeking to arrest him, but they feared the crowd,
for they realized that he had addressed the parable to them.
So they left him and went away.

THE GOSPEL OF THE LORD!

REFLECTION

In today’s Gospel, Jesus tells the parable of the vineyard owner who entrusted his vineyard to tenants. Instead of giving the owner the fruit that was due, the tenants rejected his servants and eventually killed his beloved son. Through this parable, Jesus reveals God’s enduring patience and love, but also warns against hardening our hearts and rejecting His invitation.

God has entrusted each of us with a “vineyard”—our lives, families, talents, responsibilities, and opportunities to do good. He patiently waits for the fruits of faith, love, justice, and compassion. The question the Gospel places before us is simple yet profound: What fruits am I producing for God and for others?

The religious leaders recognized that Jesus was speaking about them, yet instead of repenting, they sought to silence Him. The Gospel reminds us that true discipleship requires humility—the willingness to listen, change, and welcome Christ into every area of our lives.

Rather than resisting God’s guidance, we have to strive to be faithful stewards who bear fruits of kindness, honesty, service, and love. Every act of goodness becomes a harvest offered back to God.

PRAYER

Heavenly Father, thank You for the countless blessings and responsibilities You have entrusted to me. Forgive me for the times I have failed to bear the fruits You desire. Open my heart to Your Son, Jesus, and help me welcome His guidance with humility and faith.

May my life reflect Your love through acts of service, compassion, and integrity. Grant me the grace to be a faithful steward of Your gifts and to bear abundant fruit for Your Kingdom. Amen
