Ephesians 6: 17 – 18

21 November, 2020

Accept salvation as a helmet, and the word of God as the sword which the Spirit gives you. Do all this in prayer, asking for God’s help. Pray on every occasion, as the Spirit leads. For this reason keep alert and never give up; pray always for all God’s people. Ephesians 6:17–18

God of Salvation, as we call out your praises and declare joyfully, with grateful hearts, your majesty and sovereignty over all the earth, we humbly beseech you to empower us to fearlessly testify to your infinite benevolence in saving us for all eternity from slavery to sin and its repercussions, by redemption and adoption as children of God.

We defend ourselves against the assaults of Satan and his evil strongholds that hold us down, by fixing our gaze on the Lord of salvation, Jesus Christ, and using the spiritual armor provided by the Holy Spirit to safeguard ourselves from wicked dominions. Our salvation is assured us, and protects us effectively from the onslaughts of sinful desires, like a helmet which cannot be pierced or penetrated by the malignant foe.

Lord, we seek you in prayer and thanksgiving in good times and bad, every moment, every hour, honestly confessing that all things are possible only with the wisdom and power of your grace bestowed upon us. Without you, we are lost and defenceless. We resort to your holy word under every circumstance, vigilantly using it to thrust the enemy away, as a sword would, when wielded against temptation. The devil’s cunning plots and devices are destroyed on every occasion by the power of your Holy word.

Grant us, we pray, the fortitude and wisdom to carefully discern and follow your holy will, resorting, by sincere prayer and petition, to traverse the paths of holiness and follow the counsel and guidance of the Holy Spirit, who dwells within us and ever taking recourse to the name of our mediator, Jesus Christ, supplicating that the world unites under your kingship.  Amen
