When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, do not be alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in various places, and famines. These are the beginning of birth pains…And the gospel must first be preached to all nations…Everyone will hate you because of me, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. Mark 13:7–8,10, 13
God of creation, you are the Alpha and the Omega, our Almighty and Eternal God. You have blessed us with deliverance and the promise of an eternal inheritance. You have made an everlasting Covenant with your mortal creation and we rest assured in the faithfulness of your Holy Word.
Life on earth is chaotic and destructive, filled with conflict and catastrophe, burdened by human weaknesses, oppressed by persecution and calamity, clouded by the evil designs of Satan, our tormentor. Sin, hate and violence are rife, but all your children, God, cling to the faith, hope and restoration our Lord and Deliverer Jesus has granted us, with his death, resurrection and atonement for our sins.
Jesus, the Light of the world, has handed to us your Word and your Covenant, the gospel of Truth to direct our conscience and uphold your statutes and our beliefs. Although the world is shaken repeatedly by war and rebellion and perilous natural disasters, we are filled with the peace our Lord has left us and the guidance of the indwelling Holy Spirit to lead, instruct and direct our path.
We implore you Lord, for fortitude to face our sufferings, keeping close to your doctrines, awakening and enriching our hearts and minds with the charisms of the Holy Spirit, faithfully and with discipline furthering and prospering the message of the gospel.
As evangelists of the Truth, we pray that we will overcome hate by our message of love and peace, that we may enjoy with holy security the peace of Christ and that we persevere in faith without cessation. Though we are crushed we will not be defeated, for the salvation promised us is more than deliverance from evil, it is everlasting blessedness in your Sacred Presence, through our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen
