MONTHLY DEVOTIONAL FOR 10 SEPTEMBER

THE 10th OF SEPTEMBER

OUR FLESH OPPOSES THE HOLY SPIRIT

“For the flesh desires what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. They are in conflict with each other, so that you are not to do whatever you want. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law.” – Galatians 5:17-18

Our sinful nature is in opposition to the Holy Spirit. There is an ongoing struggle between our fleshly desires and God’s Spirit. The desires of the flesh are centered on worldly, selfish, and prideful things. In contrast, the Holy Spirit, being God, always seeks to glorify and honor the Lord in all His ways. Jesus reminds us that the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth, speaking with divine authority and revealing what is to come (John 16:13).

The Mosaic Law was given to the Israelites to guide them in living rightly before God. However, since Jesus fulfilled the Law by being the perfect sacrifice for all sin, we are no longer bound by it. Instead, we are guided by the Holy Spirit, who continually teaches us how to live in righteousness and reveals the truths of Scripture, helping us to live according to God’s will.

SUGGESTED PRAYER

Thank You, Father, for the salvation we have through Jesus and for the guidance of the Holy Spirit. As my flesh is in constant conflict with the Spirit, help me, Lord, to fight the good fight of faith, to hear and obey Your direction. I know I cannot choose rightly without the Holy Spirit, but I am never alone, for I am His temple. Please help me, Lord, to never ignore His voice, but always follow His leading. In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen
